Holiday Tea Party

Just a quick reminder about our GENERAL MEETING coming up!  Please NOTE that the date and place has been changed to Tuesday November 20th at the Fortino's at Main & Bovaird.  The meeting will be held in the Community Room across from the Customer Service desk from 7-9 pm.

We thought it would be nice to get us all in the Festive Spirit and to start the Holiday Season off with a Holiday Tea Party – with a special presentation by T by Daniel!  T by Daniel ( www.tbydaniel.com ) is a local tea company that strives to present tea as the exciting, fashionable, irresistible beverage that it truly is.  Daniel, the owner, continues to do his work, which is finding interesting, different tea blends that tease the nostrils, and electrify the tongue sending a shocking zap of flavour into your mouth, with every single cup.

In keeping with the Holiday Theme – what better way to celebrate the season of giving than by starting a food and diaper drive :)  Please feel free to contribute any non-perishable food items or diapers to help the less fortunate.  We will be sponsoring the local Women's Shelter and a local multiples family this Season and would love to start collecting items now!

For anybody interested in joining TPAB or renewing their expiring membership – next Tuesday would be a GREAT night to do that with Nina – she will be there with Membership Forms and on-hand to answer any questions about membership and process your renewal or new membership on the spot!

Also - we are now taking orders for MacMillan's Gourmet Frozen Foods!  The last day to submit your orders will be on that Tuesday and you will be able to fill out a form at the Tea Party :)

Come out and get to know each other and us over a cup of tea (or coffee)  and enjoy some light refreshments – we welcome you all to bring your children with you if you would like....we always LOVE to see the little ones!!

We look forward to seeing you all there!

Twins Plus wins an Award!

Nina Garcia and Kerry Sutton, Co-Chairs of TPAB won Honorable Mention in the Local Making a Difference Awards category this past weekend at the MBC Retreat! They were recognized for re-inventing the Brampton chapter and for their dedication to TPAB.

Nina Garcia, Kerry Sutton and Theresa Meininger Sanders (MBC)
Nina & Kerry would like to express thier gratitude to MBC for the recognition and also to their AMAZING Executive Team at TPAB - they could not have done it without all the support from thier team - Devon Johnston, Johanne Couturier-Jack, Heather Prechner, Tamara Suppa and Claudia Coniglio ♥

MBC is now a Registered Charity!

Multiple Births Canada (MBC) announced on the weekend that they are now a Canadian Registered Charity! This is a HUGE step for them as this will enable them to accept donations and provide tax receipts - which in turn will help MBC to increase the resources and support that they can offer to multiple-birth families across Canada. PLEASE consider MBC when making plans for your annual charity donations and help support a worthy cause! The easiest way to make it happen - is through CanadaHelps.org at the link below. Just click on it and enter Multiple Births Canada and search, this will bring you to the direct link.

There are a few things I wanted to mention with regards to tomorrow night's event...
  • We decided to do a last-minute" diaper and wipes drive for the Quadruplet mommy that we are helping out.  She has four newborns and two 22 month olds – so SIX kids in diapers under the age of 2!  We thought that if anybody has any diapers or wipes at home that your kids have outgrown OR you would like to get some for her – we would be happy to bring them to her!
  • Almost a week ago (on the 13th) – I sent out an email with an attachment that was a MBC Annual General Meeting Proxy Form, if you have the time – please come out tomorrow night and sign one of the Proxy Forms...I will have a bunch printed off for you all...this would be greatly appreciated!!  (I have also attached one to this email for you again :)
  • for those of you interested in selling at our Fall Sale on October 20th, please come out tomorrow evening and drop off OR fill out your Sale Waiver and deposit cheque. If you are in need of hangers for all those bins of clothing that you are selling, come and pick them up for FREE, donated by Bonnie Togs in Brampton and surrounding areas. There will also be tagging guns and barbs available for sale at this meeting. Members from our Sale Committee will also be there to answer any questions you may have about the sale and selling procedures.
  • for any of you that may have donations for the silent auction for the MBC retreat coming up in 9 days...please bring them to the meeting tomorrow for Kerry to collect?  (These donations could be brand new items or re-gifts).  A member from the MBC team will be visiting Kerry this weekend to pick up all auction items...thank you on behalf of MBC!!
  • Membership – if anybody is interested in joining TPAB or renewing their expired membership – tomorrow night would be a GREAT night to do that with me – I will be there with Membership Forms and on-hand to answer any questions about membership and process your renewal or new membership on the spot!
Come out and get to know each other and us over a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy some light refreshments – we welcome you all to bring your children with you if you would like....we always LOVE to see the little ones!!

Scotiabank Game Changers

Please join the Twins Plus Association of Brampton in supporting a great cause and helping Multiple Births of Canada receive $100,000!! We just voted for Kimberley Weatherall, the Acting Executive Director at Multiple Births Canada - she is a nominee in the Scotiabank Game Changers Contest where the winner will receive the grand prize for a charity of her choice. Kim's leadership, energy and dedication drive others to want to make a difference for Canada's multiple-birth community. When the organization struggled for lack of volunteers and financial resources, Kim found the support and people we need to keep going, and grow even stronger and she keeps doing it!! She has also volunteered on an International Level with the International Council of Multiple Birth Organizations (ICOMBO). Please help us by voting daily and getting us the money we need to help Multiple Births families across Canada!

From Multiple Births Canada: MAKING A DIFFERENCE AWARDS EXTENDED!!!

Multiple Births Canada has asked that we share with our chapter that they have extended the deadline for the Making a Difference Awards Nominations to August 15th, 2012

Please see the Facebook message below from Kimberley with the request.

For those of you not familiar with the Awards, they are awards that are handed out annually from MBC to many people within our community for the service they have given to their communities, organizations or individuals.  The Local, National and International awards were created for the express purpose of acknowledging our "unsung heroes". All the volunteers – at every level - donate their energies and resources, often for many years, without thought of reward or compensation. The Making a Difference Awards is our way of thanking them for their contributions to the multiple-birth community.

Check out Making A Difference on the MBC website and read about all the deserving past MADA winners, including detailed articles and photos.

LOCAL AWARD - Is there someone in your chapter or community who has "gone beyond the call of duty"?

NATIONAL AWARD - Is there someone at the National level who has inspired you or your chapter?

INTERNATIONAL AWARD - Is there someone at the International level who helps to ensure the professionalism of Multiple Births Canada or is working in an area that has significant impact on our Canadian families?

MEDIA AWARD - Is there a media outlet or journalist that went above and beyond over the last year to create awareness for multiple-birth issues, your chapter or for MBC?

DIONNE AWARD - Do you know of an ADULT multiple(s) who has "made a difference" on behalf of the multiple-birth community?

CORPORATE AWARD - Is there a business professional or company that has made a significant contribution to the well-being of multiple birth families?

The recipients of these awards will be honoured at the 2012 MBC Annual General Meeting and Retreat in September, and will receive an engraved plaque and certificate. You do not need to attend to nominate or receive this award. We want lots of nominations this year, so give it some thought and send in those nomination forms!

Remember: without volunteers, our local chapters and Multiple Births Canada would never be able to touch as many lives. Let's recognize those people who "Make a Difference"!

Please email Theresa, Making a Difference Chair at makingadifference@multiplebirthscanada.org

Let me know if you have any questions,

Nina
